About me
My name is Julia Wang. In 2022, I came to Canada to pursue my studies. I was born in Daigu Town, a small village in the Yimeng Mountains of China. With its rugged terrain and harsh conditions, generations of farmers have relied on peach cultivation to make a living. I am proud to be the first person from my village to earn a master’s degree in art and the first to step beyond China to explore the world.
I have loved painting since childhood. Though financial hardships once forced me to set aside my passion, I have now chosen to pick up the brush again. To me, art is not only a way to capture the beauty of life but also a means to express emotions that words cannot convey.
I hope to use part of my earnings from selling my artwork to support elderly farmers struggling with illness and poverty. If my small contribution can bring them even a little comfort, care, and dignity, then my art will hold a deeper meaning.
我叫 Julia Wang。2022 年，我来到加拿大求学。我出生在中国沂蒙山区的一个小村庄——岱崮镇。这里地形崎岖、条件艰苦，世世代代的农民都依靠种植桃子为生。我很自豪能成为村里第一个获得艺术硕士学位的人，也是第一个走出中国、探索世界的人。
我从小就热爱绘画。尽管经济困难曾迫使我放下画笔，如今我选择重新拾起它。对我来说，艺术不仅是捕捉生活之美的方式，更是表达言语无法传达的情感。
我希望将部分画作收入用于帮助那些身患疾病、生活困苦的老年农民。如果我的微薄之力能为他们带来哪怕一丝安慰、关怀和尊严，那将赋予我的艺术更深远的意义。
Supporting Elderly Famers in My Hometown
The Yimeng mountainous region in southern Shandong Province has long struggled with poverty. Its remote location, poor transportation, and inadequate infrastructure make it difficult for many families to sustain a living. As younger generations leave for bigger cities, the elderly are left behind, facing increasing hardships. With no pensions and little access to medical care, their later years are filled with suffering and financial distress.
Located in the heart of the Yimeng Mountains, Daigu Town is known for its high-quality peaches. Every spring, peach blossoms bloom, symbolizing hope and renewal. However, with the younger generation gone, the burden of tending to the orchards now falls on elderly farmers, most of whom are over 65. Despite their frail bodies and declining health, they continue to work the land, silently enduring pain and hardship.
Years of labor and long-term exposure to pesticides have taken a devastating toll. Cancer rates among the elderly here are alarmingly high, and many suffer from severe spinal disorders, leaving them bedridden or paralyzed in old age. Without pensions or access to affordable healthcare, they have no choice but to endure illness and pain, often forced to forgo treatment due to financial constraints.
A life without medical care is a life of endless suffering. In this land, many elderly farmers struggle not only to survive but also to bear the weight of their illnesses alone. They do not ask for help—they have simply grown used to enduring in silence.
I hope that through my paintbrush, I can bring them a sense of warmth and hope. If my small effort can ease even a fraction of their suffering, that would be my greatest wish.
山东省南部的沂蒙山区长期以来饱受贫困困扰。这里地处偏远，交通不便，基础设施薄弱，使得许多家庭难以维持生计。随着年轻一代外出务工，留守的老人面临日益严峻的生活挑战，尤其是缺乏医疗保障和经济支持，使他们的晚年充满艰难与不安。
位于沂蒙山区腹地的岱崮镇，以盛产优质桃子而闻名。每年春天，漫山遍野的桃花绽放，象征着希望与新生。然而，如今照料这片桃林的，已不再是充满朝气的年轻人，而是平均年龄65岁以上的老人。他们年迈体衰，却仍然在病痛与贫困中坚守土地，默默承受着生活的重压。
这里的老人生活简朴，主要依靠几亩薄田和微薄的家庭接济勉强度日。然而，多年劳作与缺乏医疗保障，使他们的晚年充满病痛。长期接触农药，让这里的老年人罹患癌症的比例远高于平均水平，而数十年的重体力劳动，也让许多人饱受严重的脊椎疾病折磨，甚至瘫痪在床。没有养老金，也无法承担高昂的医疗费用，他们只能在病痛中煎熬，甚至放弃治疗。
没有医疗保障的晚年，是无尽的痛苦与挣扎。在这片土地上，许多老人拖着病弱的身体，一边忍受疾病的折磨，一边勉强维持生计。他们不是不需要帮助，而是习惯了默默承受。
我希望通过画笔，让更多人看见他们的坚韧与困境，也希望能为他们带去一丝温暖与希望。如果微薄的努力能换来他们晚年的一丝安慰，那便是我最深的心愿。
